Braai & Patio FAQ’s

Do you supply custom sized braais?

Yes, we do. A pre-ordered custom braai in mild steel has a manufacturing waiting time of 4-5 weeks, and a stainless steel custom braai has a manufacturing waiting time of 4-6 weeks. We’ll need exact measurements from you and a full, non-refundable payment in advance.

What is the difference between the Home Fires Deluxe built-in braai and Super De Luxe built-in braai?

The difference is that with the Super De Luxe built-in braai comes with a shovel and a warmer drawer included with the model.

Do we install built-in braais?

No we don’t. We can however install flat-top braais where there is no brick work or wet works involved in the installation. Flat top braais slide in easily into the braai gap; require no flues and we can finish off the face of the braai with a neat cover plate. All other braais need to be installed by your builder, who we will happily liaise with about your installation.

What are the requirements for the installation of a flat-top braai?

You need to have a working brick chimney and the braai opening has to be made-good and be prepared by your builder. We will require the inside dimensions of the opening (width x depth x height). Our flat-top braais come in standard sizes, but if they don’t fit, then a custom pre-ordered flat-top braai can be ordered for you.  A pre-ordered custom braai in mild steel has a manufacturing waiting time of 4-5 weeks, and a stainless steel custom braai has a manufacturing waiting time of 4-6 weeks. We’ll need exact measurements from you and a full, non-refundable payment in advance.

Do we do chimney sweeps on braais?

Yes, we do. We will take your details and plan it in when we have an installation in your area.

Why do we recommend a Turbo cowl for your braai installation in high wind areas?

With a Turbo cowl there is less wind resistance due to its ergonomic design when compared to a rotating cowl. It doesn’t potentially fly off your roof in the wind; it’s recommended for this type of installation by our braai suppliers, and there are no squeaking noises in the wind, because there are no moving parts on it. Turbo cowls are recommended for coastal and high wind areas.

Do you rent out braais?

No, we do not rent out any braais. We sell them. Besides if you consider the cost of rental vs buying it yourself, then by the time you have braaied 5 times on a cheap barrel braai rental then you may as well have bought it yourself.  Generally speaking, you can rent a spit braai excluding the gas for about R700 and a barrel drum for about R200. The portable braais that we sell on our website are well priced and durable, and you can store them easily on your balcony or in the garage when you aren’t using them. It’s value for money to save up and buy.
